The Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos) told Itar-Tass, “The Zenit-2SB carrier rocket with Fregat-SB upper stage, that was blasted off from the Baikonur cosmodrome at 15:29, Moscow time, Thursday, at 00:28 MSK Friday successfully placed on the target orbit the Electro-L meteorological satellite.” The two-stage carrier rocket Zenith-2SB was developed at the Yuzhnoye (Southern) design bureau. In its design the rocket is close to the Zenit-3SL rocket, which was lofted into space under the Sea Launch programme. The rocket is reckoned ecologically pure, for kerosene and oxygen are used in it as rocket propellant components.
