Backed by proven success in South Korea and Europe, bitsensing brings future-ready ITS technology to India in collaboration with IKIO Technologies
June 4, 2025 – Seoul – bitsensing, a leading provider of advanced radar solutions, announces today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IKIO Technologies, a prominent smart infrastructure solutions provider in India, during the 2025 Suwon ITS Asia-Pacific Forum held in South Korea.
The signing ceremony was attended by key figures including Heo Na-yoon, Director of the Digital Road Team at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Huh Chung-Hoe, Chairman of ITS Korea; Akhilesh Srivastav, President of ITS India; and Dr. Shiv Kumar, General Director of ITS India.
The agreement marks bitsensing’s official entry into the Indian intelligent transportation system (ITS) market, paving the way for the deployment of AI-powered traffic monitoring technology along the Expressways, Highways and Cities beginning with a pilot on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, one of India’s most critical and heavily used corridors for Lucknow Municipal Corporation, Capital City of State of Uttar Pradesh.
IKIO Technologies is an India-based company that designs and manufactures energy-efficient lighting, and smart infrastructure solutions for industrial, commercial, and urban environments like smart meters, CCTV cameras and several electronic and auto components. With a growing focus on digital and connected technologies, IKIO has been expanding into the intelligent transportation sector, delivering scalable, sustainable systems that align with India’s smart city and highway modernization initiatives.
Through this MOU, bitsensing and IKIO will jointly implement a high-performance traffic solution combining its proven TIMOS sensors, a local edge server, and an AI-based analytics server. This deployment mirrors bitsensing’s successful implementation in Verona, Italy, and is based on trusted performance in various real-world environments across South Korea and Europe.
“Over the past several years, we’ve built trust in complex and varied road environments,” said Jae-Eun Lee, CEO at bitsensing. “ITS Suwon 2025 provided the perfect stage to formalize our partnership with IKIO Technologies. Together, we’re excited to bring our field-proven sensing and AI capabilities to India—adapting them to meet local needs and collaborating to support the country’s evolving transportation infrastructure.”
TIMOS, bitsensing’s flagship ITS sensor, integrates radar, camera, and edge AI to track up to 256 vehicles in real time, across eight lanes—even in curved sections and low-visibility conditions. Combined with TraXight, bitsensing’s AI-based traffic analytics platform, the system enables advanced monitoring of vehicle presence, average speed, violations, and congestion patterns—empowering smarter traffic control and real-time response.
“India is rapidly scaling its smart mobility infrastructure,” Lee added. “We also see great opportunity to collaborate with India’s top-tier research institutions through AI integration and jointly develop localized ITS solutions that deliver both performance and reliability.”
Sunil Kumar Mishra, CSO of IKIO Technologies, said, “Through this MOU, we look forward to introducing advanced, field proven ITS technology of bitsensing for Indian requirements. Indian Government and Transport Authorities are focussed to improve road safety, commutation and logistics speed for city, inter-city and inter-state transportation. bitsensing’s ITS solutions in Korea and Europe got good appreciation from State and Federal Government Transport authorities and are expected to become indispensable tools for Road Safety with speed through smooth traffic movement across India. This collaboration which also involves manufacturing of ITS solutions and components in India for global markets on attaining the size and big orders along with customised development will enable us to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions tailored to India’s unique road environments and will add another feather in India’s Make in India for the World initiative of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
The Mumbai–New Delhi Expressway and Lucknow / Jodhpur / Ahmedabad City pilot project will serve as a model deployment, showcasing how advanced radar and AI technologies can help reduce congestion, improve safety, and support India’s broader smart city and digital infrastructure ambitions. Building on this, both companies plan to expand their collaboration across additional highways and urban regions in the coming years.
