New Leica DMC III Becomes Industry’s Most Efficient Aerial Frame Sensor with CMOS Technology

 

Based on all-new Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor, or CMOS, imaging sensor technology, the Leica DMC III offers the world’s most efficient coverage performance in a single frame sensor at 25,000 pixels – 25 per cent more than any other camera on the market.

Breaking new ground The Leica DMC III uses a single monolithic sensor providing 391 MPixel, which offers unmatched productivity for airborne image data collection. The new CMOS sensor technology includes benefits like 78dB dynamic range and extremely low image noise level, allowing customers to fly more hours per day.

Based on the proven airborne sensor design of Leica Geosystems, the DMC III supports the common sensor platform with LiDAR and oblique sensors to minimise operating and training costs. With its wide application range, the Leica DMC III captures professional high-resolution 3D data for engineering, urban mapping and statewide orthophoto projects.

With this new sensor technology, users enjoy a 25 per cent flight cost reduction over any other airborne frame sensor, more flying opportunities, higher image quality and a fully-integrated workflow,” said Klaus Neumann, Airborne Imagining Sensors Technical Sales vice-president. “Engineers, urban planners and national mapping agencies can now capture 3D aerial data faster and at less cost than ever before.”

Integrated processing workflow Along with this announcement, Leica Geosystems is also introducing HxMAP RealCity, the innovative and highly integrated software workflow to process even the largest of data sets quickly and easily. Available with the release of the Leica DMCIII, HxMAP RealCity Enabler and Provider offer project management, quality control view, radiometric tools and distributed processing.

Availability The Leica DMC III will be available in September with advanced orders now being accepted. Upgrades from DMC II or DMC IIe systems are possible. Ordering information and details are available from all authorised Leica Geosystems representatives.
