Russia Meteo Satellite Electro-L Successfully Orbited

The Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos) told Itar-Tass, “The Zenit-2SB carrier rocket with Fregat-SB upper stage, that was blasted off from the Baikonur cosmodrome at 15:29, Moscow time, Thursday, at 00:28 MSK Friday successfully placed on the target orbit the Electro-L meteorological satellite.” The two-stage carrier rocket Zenith-2SB was developed at the Yuzhnoye (Southern) design bureau. In its design the rocket is close to the Zenit-3SL rocket, which was lofted into space under the Sea Launch programme. The rocket is reckoned ecologically pure, for kerosene and oxygen are used in it as rocket propellant components. This rocket is capable of deploying a payload weighing up to 14 tonnes into low-Earth orbits. Read More
