The Korean Geographic Information Institute published information about it’s approach to land survey – National Land Survey Collecting National Land data and constructing its management system for the establishment of National Land Policies.. This led to the development of a web mapping service for Korea that provides the National Land Survey, National Atlas and maps of the country.

The Bakosurtanal manages the national land survey for Indonesia. The link between the need for national land survey, an integrated spatial information framework and the policies of Indonesia was pointed out recently in that country -“The presence of all geospatial data and information generated through surveys and mapping activities should be fulfilled on a national scale. There are more than 94 law stating the need for geospatial data and information for development, so welcome Chief Bakosurtanal, Asep Karsidi at the opening of the Coordination Meeting of the Grand Strategy Formulation Surveying and Mapping at the Hotel Le Meridien Jakarta (02/11/2011).”

As the Government of Indonesia reports, “In the same place the Deputy Minister for National Development Planning / Head of Bappenas, Lukita Dinarsyah Tuwo, stating that the National Development Planning Agency to encourage the utilization of spatial data in a variety of national and regional development planning and establish coordination mechanisms between ministries, agencies and local governments to facilitate access to geospatial data and information. Coordination meeting which lasted 2 to 3 November 2010 was attended by over 125 participants from various government agencies, private sector and academia.”

The value of national geodata and a system for supporting administrative principles is an integral part of effective and efficient national planning. It is good to see this being recognised in Indonesia as well as Korea.
