Although its space industry employs about 11,500 people, Australia is one of the few major developed countries to not have a space agency. But that’s about to change after a domestic industry review called for a dedicated body to be established.

Industry Minister Michaelia Cash said it was “crucial” that Australia capitalized on the growth of the global space industry.

“The agency will be the anchor for our domestic coordination and the front door for our international engagement,” said Cash.

The government is expected to announce further details at the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide.
