Applanix Enhances POSPac Trimble Post-Processed CenterPoint RTX Correction Service to Support High-Accuracy UAV Mapping Without Base Stations

Achieve Centimeter-Level Accuracy Direct Georeferencing Using the POSPac Trimble Post-Processed CenterPoint RTX Correction Service

Stuttgart, Germany, September 17, 2019 – Applanix, a Trimble Company (NASDAQ: TRMB), announced today that the POSPac Trimble Post-Processed CenterPoint® RTX™ (POSPac PP-RTX) correction service has been enhanced for use with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) flown within Trimble RTX Fast service regions. Available on a subscription basis within the latest release of POSPac UAV 8.4, Applanix’ industry-leading GNSS-aided inertial post-processing software, the POSPac PP-RTX correction service now supports the generation of centimeter-level accurate position solutions for short duration UAV trajectories without using local base stations. Final data is available within just minutes of completing a mission.

The announcement was made at INTERGEO 2019, the world’s largest conference on geodesy, geoinformatics and land management. The Applanix booth is located in Hall 3, Stand F3.093.

POSPac PP-RTX works with the Trimble APX UAV Series of board sets, GNSS-inertial OEM solutions designed to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of mapping from small UAVs. Comprised of a small single OEM board containing a precision GNSS receiver and inertial sensor components plus post-mission Differential GNSS-inertial office software, the Trimble APX UAV eliminates the need to survey extensive Ground Control Points (GCPs), and reduces the amount of sidelap required to be flown, thus increasing the area flown per mission.

“POSPac PP-RTX greatly simplifies the process of mapping and surveying with UAVs,” said Joe Hutton, Applanix’ Director of Inertial Technology and Airborne Products. “Not having to spend the time and money placing a base station in the local project area nor having to wait 24 hours for Continuous Operating Reference Station (CORS) or precise ephemeris data to be published enables users to leverage the flexibility of collecting geospatial data with a UAV.”

The POSPac UAV post-processing software processes data logged from the Trimble APX UAV series of board sets to produce a highly accurate position and orientation solution that is used to Directly Georeference data from a LiDAR or camera flown onboard a UAV. The POSPac PP-RTX service uses the same data generated by Trimble RTX real-time correction services, which models precise satellite orbit, clock and atmospheric information. With initialization times of typically less than 1 minute in Fast regions, accuracy at the level of 2 centimeters can be achieved for short duration UAV trajectories, which are typically flight times of 15 minutes. The POSPac PP-RTX service supports data from the GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS constellations, and is available within minutes of data collection.

The POSPac PP-RTX service is available now through the Applanix sales channels.

About Trimble RTX
Trimble RTX technology utilizes data from a global reference station network to compute high-accuracy positions based on satellite orbit and clock information. Trimble RTX supports a suite of real-time correction services delivering a range of accuracies from better than two centimeter to sub-meter performance in as fast as one minute. Trimble RTX-based positioning services are available via convenient, easy to access satellite delivery or via IP/cellular communication, providing users with flexible options to obtain high-accuracy positions in nearly any work environment. Trimble RTX correction services are available throughout most of the world.
