Whilst many parts of Queensland have commenced recovery efforts, other areas are bracing for more flooding. Queensland Police Service Assistant Commissioner Brett Pointing said that additional police have been sent to many areas affected by floods including Emerald, Rockhampton and Bundaberg. “Whilst police throughout Queensland are heavily involved in both response and recovery operations our core responsibilities of protecting life and property remain paramount,” Assistant Commissioner Pointing said. Police are appealing to road users to actively plan their journeys over the New Year period as multiple road closures throughout the State are expected to remain for the foreseeable future. In particular police strongly urge road users to consult the Queensland Government 131940 website, RACQ website and the Queensland Police Service Facebook site to check on road closures that might impact on their journey.
