China to Amend Land Rights for Protection of Farmers

A new amendment to China’s Land Management Law is being drafted to better protect farmers’ interests in land expropriations, according to a report from the top legislature’s environment and resources panel. It is urgent to reform and standardize land expropriation practices and transfers of land-use rights over collectively-owned land (in rural areas), as the current version of the law has been proven to be outdated, the report said.
