Cutting-edge technology is enhancing the surveillance capabilities of biosecurity officers from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and Indigenous ranger groups in Australia’s remote northern region. Community Liaison Officers with the DAFF Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy (NAQS) are currently trialling the ‘i-tracker’ – a rugged mobile electronic device equipped with cyber-tracker software. The devices will provide a detailed ‘roadmap’ of biosecurity surveillance activities in the north and inform future Indigenous and community engagement activities across the region.
