Rome– e-GEOS, a Telespazio (80%) / Italian Space Agency (20%) company, has been awarded by the European Union Satellite Centre (SatCen) for the renewal of the supply of geospatial products for the Copernicus Security Service component on Support to EU External and Security Actions (SESA).
Acting as Prime Contractor, e-GEOS will lead an European industrial team that also includes AIRBUS, CLS, GMV, IABG and Telespazio, a Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%) joint venture.
The Copernicus SESA Service is the European geospatial information service which assists the EU and its Member States in its operations and interests, where security issues are at stake. The information provided contributes to improving European capabilities in crisis prevention, preparedness and response. It also aims to assist in situations of crisis or emerging crisis and supports our users in order to prevent global and trans-regional threats having a destabilising effect.
The consortium led by e-GEOS ensures a robust and reliable support to the SESA service, being formed by some of the largest and most experienced European industrial firms in the field of geospatial services. In addition, the consortium has already managed a similar service to support the SatCen through two 2-year contracts in 2017 and 2019, providing more than 750 geospatial products, contributing strongly to achieving the goal of 1,000 products delivered at the beginning of December 2021 by the service.
The continuity offered by the Consortium led by e-GEOS will provide the highest guarantee to meet the challenging responsiveness and quality of service required by SatCen.
The consortium will works in the supply of geospatial products for a maximum duration of three years within the following application areas: security of eu citizens, humanitarian aid, crisis and conflict, rule of law, transport safety and securuty, stability and resilience for development, cultural heritage, environmental compliance, climate security, international trade and economic diplomacy, healt secutiry.
The SESA achievement strengthens the position of e-GEOS, which within Copernicus is already at the head of the Emergency Management Service Rapid Mapping consortium for the past decade, as a Leading Player in the field of Earth Observation.
