GIS Certification Institute Seeks a GISP-Elected Member to the Board of Directors

The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) Board of Directors is seeking nominations for a new “at large” Board Member. Nominees must hold a current GISP certification and meet the qualifications outlined below. GISPs will elect the at-large Board Member from a list of qualified nominees. All current certified GISPs are eligible to vote.

Nomination Eligibility Requirements:

  • Nominees must be an active GISP in good standing at the time of nomination and have no ethics violations.
  • GISPs may be nominated by another GISP or self-nominate.
  • Formal nominations must be sent to the GISCI Executive Director, Tony Spicci, via email at [email protected].
  • Nominations must include a formal nomination letter along with a letter of recommendation from a GISP or GISP-R in good standing.
  • The nomination must include contact information for the nominee including a phone number and email address.
  • Nominees may not be an officer of a GISCI Member Organization. The current list includes:
      • American Association of Geographers (AAG),
      • National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC),
      • University Consortium of Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) and
      • Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA).
  • Nominations are due by 5:00pm on October 31, 2022.

Nominees will be certified as meeting eligibility requirements by the GISCI Executive Director. Once certified, the nominee will be required to complete a brief biographical questionnaire and submit a short statement (500-word max) on their interest in becoming a member of the GISCI Board of Directors. The biography and statement will be distributed to current GISPs prior to voting. All currently active GISPs will be invited to vote for the nominee of their choice to serve as the at-large Board Member. The election will be held electronically.

At-large GISP Board Member Requirements:

  • The GISP at-large Board Member shall hold office for a three-year term.
  • Board Members shall not receive any compensation for their services as Board Members, but by resolution of the Board of Directors, Directors may be reimbursed for expenses incurred in attending any regular or special meetings of the Board
  • Board Members are expected to take part in monthly meetings (remote), an annual in-person meeting, and other meetings as called by the Board.
