NSGIC Announces New Board Members; Wyoming’s Karen Rogers takes over as President

National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) is proud to announce the appointment of five new members to its Board of Directors, as well as the full slate of officers and board members for the 2019 – 2020 term. Joining the Board of Directors are Karen Rogers (WY), Frank Winters (NY), Tim Johnson (NC), Jenna Leville (AZ), and Neil MacGaffey (MA).

Karen Rogers makes the move from President-Elect to the new President of NSGIC, taking the reign from Dan Ross (MN). Karen is a Habitat Protection Analyst for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. She got her start in GIS as an archaeologist with the Pinedale BLM 20 years ago. As a certified GIS professional, she currently serves as the President of WyGEO and has been on the Board of Directors of NSGIC for the last 5 years.

“The seismic advances in technology over the next few years are positioning our organization to drive enormous geospatial innovation within the states and at the federal level,” said new NSGIC President Karen Rogers. “I’m honored to take the helm of an organization with the talent, enthusiasm and professionalism of NSGIC. Together with the board, our staff and industry partners, we’ll chart a path for true innovation and technological change that will enable our policymakers to deliver more efficient and effective government within the states and across our country.”

Frank Winters, State GIO with the New York State Information Technology Services, has been elected as President-Elect. Frank comes with 30 years of experience within the cartography and GIS sector and currently oversees the GIS framework data programs of New York State. These programs include orthoimagery, elevation data, parcels, boundaries, streets, addresses, and broadband data.

Tim Johnson, Director of the North Carolina Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, has been elected as a Director onto the board. Tim served as the secretary for the NSGIC Board of Director previous to this and has been heavily involved with NSGIC for a number of years. He has over 30 years of experience working in the information technology and services industry.

Jenna Leveille, Deputy State Cartographer for the State of Arizona, has been newly elected to the Board of Directors. Jenna has almost 20 years experience in GIS and currently coordinates, provides leadership, and facilitates the Arizona Geographic Information Council (AGIC) activities and statewide GIS initiatives. She is also on the NSGIC GeoWomen Steering Committee and participates in NSGIC’s 3DEP for the Nation program.

Neil MacGaffey, Director of MassGIS, has been elected to the Board of Directors. Previous to this, he was appointed to the board by then-President Dan Ross to fill out the term of someone who left the board before their term ended. A seasoned GIS professional with over 30 years of experience, Neil has been involved with NSGIC since 2015.

NSGIC offers its thanks to Jim Steil (MS) for his service as a Director on the board for the last two years. Jim brought a high caliber of leadership and wisdom that will be missed.
