Satellite Image Reveals Western Australia’s Agricultural Patchwork

A Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired in June 2026 reveals a colorful agricultural landscape in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia, where geometric fields contrast with salt lakes, coastal wetlands and the dark waters of the Southern Ocean.

The image was processed using Sentinel-2’s near-infrared channel, which highlights vegetation in red and improves the ability to distinguish crop types and conditions. The data can support agricultural monitoring, land-use classification, crop-health assessment, irrigation mapping and change detection.

Several prominent salt lakes also appear in shades of blue and green, reflecting differences in salinity and water depth. Offshore, the islands of the Recherche Archipelago appear as small red dots, while the town of Esperance lies near a group of protected wetlands and coastal reserves.
