Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that Sagar Deshpande, Ph.D., PE, PS, CP, GISP, sUAS, has been hired as a senior geospatial technology manager in the firm’s Fairfax, Virginia, office.

Deshpande has more than two decades of experience and has been hired to support the firm’s remote sensing operations with a focus on airborne lidar and photogrammetry. With a background in geospatial surveying and civil engineering, he will be responsible for overseeing lidar production, including automation of feature extraction. Prior to joining Dewberry, Deshpande worked as an associate professor at Penn State University where he taught geospatial and surveying courses and conducted research. Additionally, he served as the program coordinator of the surveying engineering program.

“Sagar brings a great mix of applications research in the field of hydrology and hydrography, as well as in-depth knowledge of remote sensing and surveying to our geospatial and technology services group,” says Dewberry Associate Vice President and Geospatial Technology Manager Josh Novac, GISP. “I look forward to working with Sagar to apply his vast breadth of knowledge to provide additional value to our clients.”

Deshpande earned his doctorate (2017) and master’s (2008) degrees in geodetic science from The Ohio State University, a master’s (2004) in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, and a bachelor’s (2001) in civil engineering from SPCE, University of Mumbai. He is a member of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
