Space Cargo Unlimited and Transcell Biologics Partner to Advance Drug Discovery in Space

Collaboration will explore how research in orbit could accelerate the development of safer, more effective medicines while reducing reliance on animal testing. FOETZ, Luxembourg and HYDERABAD, India, 14 August 2026 – Transcell Biologics Private Limited (Transcell Biologics) and Space Cargo Unlimited have announced a strategic partnership to explore how research in microgravity could transform the way new medicines and vaccines are developed.

The collaboration brings together Transcell Biologics’ expertise in human cell-based research and artificial intelligence with Space Cargo Unlimited’s commercial microgravity research platform. Together, the companies will investigate whether the unique conditions of space can generate more predictive data on how potential treatments behave in the human body, helping researchers make better decisions earlier in the drug development process. Today, only around one in ten drugs entering clinical trials ultimately reaches patients. Many fail because traditional preclinical models cannot fully replicate human biology. By combining human-relevant research with experiments in orbit, the partnership aims to improve the prediction of drug safety and effectiveness, reduce costly late-stage failures and support the growing move towards alternatives to animal testing.

Space Cargo Unlimited will provide the orbital research infrastructure, mission expertise and sample return capabilities, while Transcell Biologics will contribute its human microphysiological systems, artificial intelligence technologies, and expertise in human biology. The initial research will focus on areas including oncology, immunology, neurodegenerative disease, metabolic disorders, anti-ageing, and vaccine development.
