Important Changes to the Registration Process for QLD Mine Surveyors

The introduction of Recognised Standard 10, Mine Surveying and Drafting, and the Queensland Advisory Committee setting a deadline of the 31st of December 2012 for incumbent Mine Surveyors currently signing statutory plans to obtain their registration, has also prompted the Board to approve a proposal to trial an interview process as an alternative to the documentary evidence stage or Career Episode Report (CER). The applicant will be asked to provide a “detailed” portfolio, with examples of their general surveying and mining experience.

Successful applicants will then be required to attend the interview process where they will be questioned on their experience and competency with reference to the competency framework. The proposed interviews would be a combination of set tasks and an oral examination of the applicant’s evidence and other matters relating to mine surveying and legislation.

Once applicants have been deemed competent by a panel consisting of SBQ and AIMS assessors, they will be allowed to progress to the PAP stage of registration. Read More

With the December 2012 deadline in mind, applicants are advised to approach the SBQ for details on how to apply under the 100 Points system sooner rather than later.
