Kyushu Institute of Technology Selects Intergraph SmartMarine 3D

Kyutech researchers have been working with major shipbuilders in Japan to build knowledge models that can collect design and engineering expertise of experienced engineers. The combination of the Kyutech knowledge model with Intergraph SmartMarine 3D will help to advance shipbuilding design, and improve quality and productivity. Researchers and students in the Department of Creative Informatics can receive firsthand SmartMarine 3D operational training and practice to create ship structure models and export the ship design data for review in the Kyutech knowledge model.

SmartMarine 3D is a key component of Intergraph’s multi-discipline SmartMarine Enterprise portfolio, which provides all the capabilities needed to design and build offshore devices or ships from design to fabrication to operations and maintenance – all in a single, integrated environment. It is a data-centric, rules-driven solution that enables users to share data globally, automate design and build safety into vessels and structures early in the design process, and efficiently construct and manage the engineering design basis throughout the life cycle of an asset.

Masanobu Umeda, associate professor at Kyutech, said, “We take great pride in our commitment to academic excellence with competence in engineering and strive to provide the best research and educational tools available. Intergraph’s SmartMarine 3D is aligned with Kyutech’s academic goals and enables us to use advanced technology to produce a leading-edge software that can be used for hull structure design review with relevance in the marine industry.”

“Intergraph places great value on innovation and constantly strives to build on our expertise and experience to positively impact current and future generations,” said Gerhard Sallinger, president of Intergraph Process, Power & Marine. “It is an honor to have Kyutech select SmartMarine 3D for integration into its research and education projects. Kyutech’s choice of Intergraph validates our position as an industry leader in shipbuilding designs solutions and an important step in the continued expansion of Intergraph’s marine presence in Japan.”

The ARC Advisory Group, a leading industry analyst firm, ranked Intergraph the No. 1 overall engineering design 3D software and process engineering tools (PET) provider worldwide according to its PET Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast through 2013.
