Global Mapper and GM LiDAR SDKs v17 Released with Power Line Extraction and 3D Point Styles

Hallowell, Maine, November 4, 2015 — Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of version 17 of the Global Mapper Base Software Development Kit (SDK) along with the Global Mapper LiDAR Module SDK.

This update, released in conjunction with version 17 of the standard version of Global Mapper, includes numerous data processing speed gains, support for several new and updated file formats, support for 3D point styles, and much more. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

Global Mapper is an affordable and easy-to-use GIS application capable of displaying, converting, and analyzing virtually any type of geospatial data. The Global Mapper SDK provides software developers with a toolkit for accessing much of this functionality from within an existing or custom-built application. Recent SDK releases have also enabled the creation of custom toolbars and extensions to enhance the data processing and analysis functionality of the standard version of Global Mapper. This capability allows in-house developers to create a refined version of the software to meet the unique needs of their company without having to reinvent the wheel.

Version 17 of the SDK augments improvements made in preceding releases with dramatic speed improvements for all data types but especially Lidar and 3D ranging from 40% to 10 times faster depending on number of cores and processing power. This release also features support for rendering 3D point styles such as pretty trees for classified and extracted point clouds or any other point render graphically please 3D points. There are several new cloud data sources, including US National Map sources (w/ 1 foot color imagery source), World Navigation Charts (1:1M Scale ONC Charts), and Australian water sources.

The LiDAR Module of the SDK now features automatic classification of points as power lines and feature extraction of those points to power line vector objects. There is also new support for noise classification for high and low noise points.

“The LiDAR functionality along with the speed improvements in this release solidify Global Mapper as the best GIS solution for LiDAR, 3D data or really any type of data processing,” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “The return on investment software developers can gain from this tool is unmatched. Blue Marble is a software development shop, we understand the challenges of software development. This SDK meets most of those challenges for today’s GIS windows developers.”
