New Leica Pegasus TRK300 opens up advanced mobile mapping to wider range of users

The new mobile mapping system combines comprehensive data capture with AI-enhanced functions in a lightweight design, making advanced mapping more accessible.

Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, introduced the Leica Pegasus TRK300, an adaptable system for various mobile mapping applications. Mobile mapping is increasingly vital: enabling the rapid and accurate collection of geospatial data, it supports smart city initiatives, enhances infrastructure development, and facilitates digital twin creation for improved urban planning and operational efficiency across various sectors.

With this new system, users with varying levels of experience can efficiently capture high-quality point cloud data. “The Pegasus TRK300 opens exciting opportunities for any business looking to enhance and grow their mapping capabilities, from identifying potholes to optimising city centre traffic flows,” says Christian Schäfer, Business Director Mobile Mapping at Leica Geosystems. “Because it is lightweight and designed with the user in mind, a single person can easily transport it and mount it to a vehicle — delivering results with minimal effort.”

Uncompromising performance
The Pegasus TRK300’s multi-beam scanner system with two scanning heads quickly captures detailed, high-resolution data from multiple angles to minimise data gaps. With a range of up to 300 metres, the system provides comprehensive coverage over wide corridors and large open areas, reducing the need for multiple passes. This powerful scanning capability means users can cover more ground in less time without sacrificing data quality. The result is a high-density point cloud, ideal for asset mapping and smart city modelling.

The Pegasus TRK300’s robust design ensures reliable operation in challenging conditions including heavy rain or dust. Additionally, its seven-hour battery life eliminates the need for frequent battery swaps, supporting a full day of uninterrupted fieldwork. The Pegasus TRK300 complements the Pegasus TRK portfolio by offering a versatile solution that bridges the gap between portability and advanced data capture capabilities.

Seamless workflows
The Pegasus TRK300 seamlessly integrates with Leica Pegasus FIELD for efficient data capture and system monitoring during the data collection process and with Leica Pegasus OFFICE for advanced postprocessing and creating final deliverables. This integrated approach adapts to various workflows, supporting applications such as mapping infrastructure, streets, and assets while avoiding complicated file conversions or compatibility issues.
