ICLEI USA and ClimateView Launch ClearPath 2.0, a Game-Changing Platform for Advancing U.S. Local Climate Action

Denver, CO — Today, ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability USA (ICLEI USA) is launching ClearPath 2.0, a powerful new platform designed to help U.S. local governments lead on climate action amid growing political gridlock and uncertainty at the federal level. As national climate policy faces setbacks, cities, counties, Tribal nations, and regions are stepping up to deliver real solutions. ICLEI USA, the oldest and largest network of local governments advancing sustainability and climate initiatives, developed this new and improved platform with its climate tech partner, ClimateView. ClearPath 2.0 helps U.S. communities advance transformative climate solutions that improve the lives and livelihoods of their residents – everything from clean power, to electric buses, to dedicated bike lanes – that not only reduce emissions but also deliver cost savings, improve public health, and create jobs.

Communities across the U.S. face increasing risks from climate change, and U.S. local governments have the ability to reduce over 50% of the U.S. greenhouse gas emissions contributing to these threats. To do so, local leaders need effective and actionable tools that help them understand their contributions and the actions they can take to effectively reduce carbon pollution over time. ClearPath 2.0 brings everything local governments need to advance climate action together in one place: inventories, targets, strategies, modeling, and emission reduction strategies, all tailored for U.S. local governments.

“As an elected official, I know how important it is to have a platform that addresses the real challenges we face at the local level,” said Niki Armacost, Mayor of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, and ICLEI USA Board Member. “ClearPath 2.0 gives us more than data—it gives us a clear, coordinated way to manage the transition, understand the impact of our decisions before we make them, and deliver results our government can see and feel.”

ClearPath 2.0 Features:

  • Built-in models enable local governments to analyze emission sources and costs across sectors and move quickly from planning to action.
  • Real-time planning creates “living climate action strategies” that can adapt to local changes and new data.
  • Dashboards empower local governments with the tools needed to support collaboration, transparency, and progress tracking.

Three key innovations make this possible:

  • Transition Elements: Provide a common open-source framework for local governments across the U.S. to track and take action to meaningfully reduce carbon pollution.
  • The Transition Engine: Built-in modeling simulates emissions, energy, and economic impacts, enabling local governments to quickly assess where they can achieve the biggest emissions reductions for their investment, helping them avoid costly missteps and secure buy-in with local and regional partners.
  • Outcome Logic: A standardized cause-and-effect logic, ensures that local governments can assess the impact of their climate actions and track their progress internally and in relation to other local governments across the U.S..

“ClearPath 2.0 is a leap forward for climate planning in the United States. Local governments drive measurable climate action, often with limited time and resources. This new platform helps them move faster, with greater confidence and clarity,” shared Brigid Shea, Travis County Commissioner and ICLEI USA Board Chair.
