Global Mapper v21 Now Available with New MangoMap Extension, Improved Labeling, and Updated Mobile App

Hallowell, Maine  – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the release of version 21 of Global Mapper along with an upgrade to the accompanying LiDAR Module and a new version of Global Mapper Mobile for iOS and Android. This multi-faceted release delivers an array of new and updated functionality in all areas of the Global Mapper suite and introduces a new collaboration with MangoMap, allowing Global Mapper users to quickly and easily create stunning online maps.

Now in its third decade of development, Global Mapper has evolved into a major player in the GIS software industry boasting an unrivalled collection of data creating, editing, rendering, and analysis tools, right out of the box. Global Mapper is helping to expand access to GIS technology by mitigating the high cost and usability barriers inherent in traditional GIS applications.

The highlight of the version 21 release is the new MangoMap extension, which provides Global Mapper users with a straightforward and affordable tool for sharing their work with an unlimited audience. The extension includes tools for establishing an online MangoMap subscription and a simple two-click procedure for publishing a map.

Version 21 also includes a revamped labeling function providing more flexible text management and the means to move, edit, or delete individual labels. It also introduces a new keyframe animation tool for dynamically visualizing change in a sequence of layers, and improved assignment of drawn vector features to an appropriate layer. A new terrain analysis function for identifying local peaks and depressions has been added to the contouring dialog box and a tool for creating a 3D line from the fly-mode or walk-mode path is available in the 3D Viewer.

The upgraded LiDAR Module incorporates an automatic point classification tool for identifying and reclassifying utility poles. There have also been numerous upgrades to Pixels-to-Points, a photogrammetry tool for creating 3D data from drone or UAV images. These include a masking option to eliminate uniform background colors; a new function for automatically finding images that contain ground control points based on their location; and a tool for displaying the approximate ground coverage polygons for selected images.

The most significant development in the Global Mapper Mobile platform is the availability of the Pro version, incorporating numerous professional-grade mapping tools. Highlights include support for streaming map services including the ability to add custom sources; GeoPackage and GeoPDF support; multiple projection options; GPS averaging; and much more. The base version of the mobile app has also seen considerable changes with a refreshed UI; a new measure tool; access to OSM data; and an attribute search function.

“The version 21 release illustrates Global Mapper’s rapidly expanding geospatial footprint,” stated Blue Marble’s President, Patrick Cunningham. “In this one release cycle, we have introduced countless new tools for GIS analysts, LiDAR managers, drone operators, and field technicians. Global Mapper is undeniably the Swiss Army Knife for the geospatial community, and we are so pleased to be able to bring all of these capabilities together in one GIS platform while still keeping the price very affordable.”

Blue Marble Application Specialists will be conducting a live webinar on Thursday, October 3rd during which they will showcase the highlights of Global Mapper v21. This presentation is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm (U.S. Eastern Time), and it will provide an opportunity to see the latest tools and to ask questions about the new functionality.
