University of Tennessee, Knoxville Launches Concept3D Interactive Map and Virtual Tour Platform

DENVER – Concept3D, a leader in creating immersive online experiences with 3D modeling, interactive maps and virtual tour software, today announced that The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is the latest major university to launch on the Concept3D platform.

Founded in 1794, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is the state’s largest university and serves more than 28,000 students. The Concept3D platform presents the 600-acre urban campus online with interactive, highly detailed 3D renderings, making it easy and fun to explore the campus on desktop or mobile device

Multiple departments at the University collaborated on developing the map’s content. By integrating existing GIS data into the Concept3D platform, different departments can easily contribute, ensuring consistent messaging and real-time updates across the map.

Among the most dynamic features of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s map are its live transit tracking system which shows the movement of buses and the estimated time of arrival at the next stop, and the point-to-point wayfinding system with routes that appear in the University’s signature orange.

The power behind the Concept3D platform is its CMS, a simple and intuitive way to give various levels of access to departments, staff and students to support the management of map information, locations and virtual tours. Any department can create a map layer that can be toggled on and off and scheduled to appear and disappear, perfect for special events, athletics events, closures, and construction.

The Concept3D platform also enables the ability to feature 360-degree panoramic images, giving map visitors the ability to feel as if they’ve jumped right into a specific campus location.

“We’re very proud to see how the University of Tennessee, Knoxville has used the Concept3D platform to bring their campus to life online, giving people anywhere in the world the ability to explore and find their way around,” said Concept3D Senior Account Executive, Brian Rehkopf. “The use of our CMS with data feeds is powerful to see and demonstrates the flexibility of the platform and its ability to integrate data from just about any data source.”

The University’s 3D interactive campus map highlights building locations and names, sustainability initiatives, technology, safety resources, and includes a variety of different map categories that are useful for students, faculty, staff and alumni.
