Esri ArcGIS Online Users Can Now Access ArcGIS Data in Microsoft Power BI

REDLANDS, Calif.— Esri, a global leader in spatial analytics, today announced ArcGIS Online users can work on their own private content directly within Microsoft Power BI using the built-in visualization software ArcGIS Maps for Power BI.

“We’re excited to offer ArcGIS Online users the ability to work on their own private basemaps and reference layers inside Microsoft Power BI,” said Scott Ball, Esri product manager for ArcGIS Maps for Power BI. “Now ArcGIS users can extend the reach of their authoritative location data from ArcGIS to their Power BI reports and dashboards.”

ArcGIS Maps for Power BI makes it easy to create beautiful, accurate map visualizations from within Power BI. Users can map data from any location value—an address, city, state, ZIP code, place-name, boundary, or latitude and longitude—with a simple drag-and-drop operation. They can then use smart map defaults that guide them to the right style and display for their data. This frees them up to focus on the end result—quickly exposing relationships and patterns that impact decision-making.

“Microsoft Power BI, combined with Esri’s rich collection of ready-to-use geographic data and leading expertise in location intelligence, gives our mutual customers a way to make informed, location-based decisions,” said John Doyle, senior marketing director for Power BI, Microsoft Corp. “When you are able to turn on location data across an organization with one flip of the switch, the impact is significant.”

Power BI users can also take advantage of a vast selection of ready-to-use ArcGIS maps and demographic data as well as simple spatial analytics tools such as cross-filtering by map selection, heat maps, and drive times at no extra cost. The ArcGIS Maps for Power BI Plus subscription offers users who opt in access to global demographics, expanded data mapping, and more content from Esri’s Living Atlas of the World. Plus subscription capabilities include the following:

  • Premium global demographic data, including age, disposable income, and diversity index
  • Verified, curated, ready-to-use authoritative data
  • Twelve basemaps including satellite imagery, oceans, and terrain
  • The ability to plot up to one million points on a map each month

The new release of Power BI also allows businesses to purchase Plus subscriptions easily and make the capabilities available across their organizations. Companies can choose from three plans: small, for up to 1,000 users; medium, for up to 5,000 users; or large, for up to 10,000 users.
