Global Mapper SDK and LiDAR Module SDK v18.2 Released with Support for Cloud-Based Data Management Using Amazon Simple Storage Service

Hallowell, Maine – Blue Marble Geographics ( www.bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of version 18.2 of the Global Mapper Software Development Kit (SDK) along with the Global Mapper LiDAR Module SDK. Released in conjunction with the desktop version of the application, this powerful developer’s toolkit shares many of the software’s functional enhancements and performance improvements. Some of the highlights of the 18.2 release include support for Amazon’s cloud-based Simple Storage Service; 3D fly-through improvements; hydro-flattening for LiDAR data; and improved lighting display for vector features and models in the 3D Viewer.

For over two decades, Blue Marble’s affordable, user-friendly GIS software has been meeting the needs of hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers throughout the world. Users come from all industries including software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as government departments and academic institutions.

Global Mapper is an affordable and easy-to-use GIS application capable of displaying, converting, and analyzing virtually any type of geospatial data. The Global Mapper SDK and LiDAR Module SDK provide software developers with a toolkit for accessing much of this functionality from within an existing or custom-built application. The SDK also enables the creation of custom toolbars and extensions to enhance the data processing and analysis functionality of the standard version of Global Mapper. This capability allows in-house developers to create a unique version of the software to meet their specific needs and requirements.

The recent release of version 18.2 of Global Mapper included dozens of new and improved features and functions, and most of these upgrades are now available to software developers using the SDK. Significant improvements include support for read and write access to cloud-based data using Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), part of Amazon Web Services. This efficient and powerful cloud data storage service offers businesses and organizations reliable access to critical data on demand from within Global Mapper or any SDK-based application.

Other improvements in the 18.2 release include an upgrade to the fly-though visualization and recording function, which now offers the option of playback looping; support for exporting attributes with DWG and DXF files; direct access to the new 1-arc-second (30m) resolution SRTM elevation data and ESA CCI Land Cover data for the entire world; and improvements to the simulated lighting and shadow rendering for vector features and models in the 3D Viewer.

“As the popularity of the desktop version of Global Mapper continues to grow throughout the world, more and more software developers are using the SDK to build the same functionality into a wide variety of custom applications,” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “The Global Mapper SDK is unrivaled in its ease of deployment, data format support, affordability, and in its adaptability, allowing it to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s geospatial software development community.”

For Global Mapper LiDAR Module SDK users, version 18.2 provides a new hydro-flattening function in which the elevation values associated with either a 3D line or area feature override the point cloud elevations when creating a gridded surface model.
