WMS Map Viewer on Line: An Application Providing Ubiquitous Access to Maps

WMS Map Viewer on line is a web application for accessing and indexing web maps. The application is provided as SaaS (Software as a Service) so that the software required for visualizing and managing web maps is rapidly loaded while accessing the web site of the app in URL: https://wmsviewer-rodis.rhcloud.com/.

It is designed so as to run on practically every web enabled device, from old mobile phone and web TVs to high-end computer systems and adjust map content on screens of any size. On this way it provides ubiquitous access to map data for the users.

The users of the application may open a map of their choice by simply entering its URL and layer name. They may also choose a map from a growing list of preconfigured connections to a variety of map sources including OpenStreetMap, weather prediction maps, NASA NEO maps and many more.
The application is freely accessible without needing to create an account or subscribe and it is compatible with all modern versions of the WMS protocol providing easy access to any web map.

The application among others supports the following features:

> The ability for the users to combine map layers from different sources by projecting them one over the other.

> The ability to open and display .kml file over any map source.

> The function of drawing on the maps and outputting the drawings as point, line or polygon .kml files.

> The ability to store, save and share map layers.

The latest is an important feature of the application that empowers portability and enables the storage of all open map layers in a single file that users may share and view from anywhere. Using the save & share feature, the map layers that the user has opened are saved in an .html file which contains all the information needed to open the application from any device with all the layers loaded as they were saved.

The produced .html files are ready-to-publish; they may be published on a web site and index the map layers stored in them through accessing the application.
