Survey of India Launches Nakshe Portal

A web-application developed by SoI, in association with NIC Uttarakhand State Unit, Nakshe provides free public download of Open Series Maps in PDF format. Union minister Dr Harsh Vardhan launched the portal at an event organized by FICCI to celebrate the 250th anniversary year of SoI. Users can download around 3,000 opens series maps from the portal. Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary of Dept. of Science and Technology, chaired a session on geospatial policy framework at the event – Users’ Perspective to Geospatial Policy Framework in India. Senior speakers also called for strong data management through effective storage and dissemination mechanisms.
