The UK Hydrographic Office recognises the Indonesian Chief Hydrographer and Commander of the Indonesian Navy Hydro-Oceanography Centre with prestigious Alexander Dalrymple Award.
The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has presented Vice Admiral Dr Budi Purwanto, Indonesian Chief Hydrographer and Commander of the Indonesian Navy Hydro-Oceanography Centre (Pushidrosal) with the 2026 Alexander Dalrymple Award. The award recognises him for his services to hydrography, cartography and navigational safety.
Vice Admiral Dr Purwanto was presented with the award by Rear Admiral Angus Essenhigh OBE, the UK’s National Hydrographer and the UKHO’s Director of Data Acquisition and Defence, on Monday 12 October. It was awarded ahead of the 10th International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Council meeting, which begins in Monaco on Tuesday 13 October.
The awarding committee recognised Vice Admiral Dr Purwanto’s leadership, dedication, and ongoing contribution in advancing hydrography, cartography, and navigational safety, both within Indonesia and across the wider region. Under his leadership, Pushidrosal has modernised Indonesia’s hydrographic capabilities, and continues to provide and maintain high-quality nautical charts and maritime geospatial information to support safe navigation and national maritime interests.
