Marek Suchocki has begun his term as the new president of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), bringing more than 35 years of experience in engineering, infrastructure, and digital innovation.
A Fellow of the institution and a CICES member since 1998, Marek was elected to the role and officially assumed the presidency at the institution’s Annual General Meeting on 2 September 2026, succeeding Alex Pearsall.
His presidential theme for his 12-month tenure is “Innovate, Integrate, Inspire”, reflecting principles Marek has upheld throughout his distinguished career. Taking office at a pivotal time for the civil engineering surveying industry, Marek will focus on embracing emerging technologies and new ways of working. Another key focus will be strengthening collaboration both organisationally and technically across the sector and attracting new talent to address industry skills shortages.
Marek has worked across infrastructure delivery, engineering consultancy, operations and technology throughout a career spanning more than three decades. This includes working for British Waterways on the canal network as an undergraduate to holding roles at Costain, University of Reading, Atkins, Mouchel, and Autodesk.
His career has combined major project delivery, research, and challenging the status quo with a passion for innovation and digital transformation. Marek has also made a significant contribution to CICES, serving on the Geospatial Engineering Practices Committee for some ten years and, since 2008, representing the institution on the British Standards B555 committee for construction design, modelling and data exchange.
