Safe Software’s $1 Million Dollar Donation is Helping to Change the Children’s Health at Surrey Memorial Hospital

Safe Software has helped change the lives and health-care available to the children of the Lower Mainland through a generous $1 million dollar donation they made to the Surrey Hospital Foundation in November of 2018. The leading technology company for spatial data participated in the Surrey Hospital Foundation’s campaign goal of fundraising $6 million dollars to transform the Children’s Health Centre at Surrey Memorial Hospital, where tens of thousands of children are treated every year.

The noteworthy donation has since been put towards rejuvenating the newly named Safe Software Outpatient Centre, which had its Grand Opening this past Fall. The facility consists of fourteen outpatient clinic rooms and has a kid-friendly woodland theme. Surrey Memorial Hospital’s Safe Software Outpatient Centre

“More than 43,000 children will seek life-saving care in our children’s emergency which opened just five years ago. We will treat approximately 20 percent of B.C.’s newest diagnosed childhood cancers. We will perform 1,200 surgeries on children over (the age of) six, and we’ll care for over 1,000 children and teens struggling with mental illness”  says the Surrey Hospital Foundation President and CEO Jane Adams.

Surrey Memorial Hospital treats more than 50,000 children every year. Through this donation, clinic rooms in the centre have doubled and include a new surgical area, accommodating up to 25% more children and enabling the facility to add high-demand services such as gastrointestinal and orthopedics.

With Surrey’s population increase of 50% since the hospital was built in 2001, this donation has aided in building a new nourishment centre where they will host a more comfortable waiting area for family and friends. This will expand neurology, cardiology and nephrology services as well.

“We’ve worked hard at Safe, and as we grew and became more successful, we wanted to find ways to give back to Surrey and our community in any way we could” says the co-founders of Safe Software Dale Lutz and Don Murray. “We hope this gift to the Foundation will bolster the tireless work that the medical and professional teams at Surrey Memorial Hospital do every day and for years to come”.

Safe Software’s Journey With The Surrey Hospital Foundation

Safe Software has created and maintained a strong relationship with the Surrey Hospital Foundation over the past decade. In 2012, Safe Software donated $250,000 to the advancement of the Children’s Emergency Ward. Then in 2015, another donation of $150,000 was donated to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Stabilization Unit, which provides families and youths emergency medical care in mental health crises.
