Space Foundation To Host Veteran and Military Family Appreciation Day, Nov. 13

Event Will Offer Themed Activities, Free and Reduced Admission for Military Families

 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  — Space Foundation, a nonprofit advocate organization founded in 1983 for the global space ecosystem, today announced Space Foundation Discovery Center will hold Veteran and Military Family Appreciation Day, Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., dedicated to honoring our nation’s military service personnel, past and present.

Event: Veteran and Military Family Appreciation Day

Date: Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. MST

Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs

Admission:

  • Veteran, active duty and retired military: Free admission
  • Veteran, active duty and retired military family members: Half-price admission

 

Activities:

  • Science on a Sphere®: “Military & Space: Together Since the Beginning,” highlighting U.S. military involvement in space exploration since the dawn of the space age.
  •  Electricity demonstrations and related hands-on activities with Discovery Center partner Cool Science, including the Discovery Center’s large Van de Graaf generator.
  • The Discovery Center Space Demo Cart will be in the gallery with a Flir® infrared camera (aka thermal gun) giving guests a vision of the world beyond what the human eye can see.
  • Robotic rover “recon missions” in the Mars Robotics Laboratory, where guests get the chance to program rovers and collect intelligence on the Red Planet.
  • Hands-on mapping and navigation activities on Mars — because surface terrain and geography are as important in space exploration missions as they are in military operations.

In a continuing partnership with Cool Science, visit Space Foundation Discovery Center on Nov. 13 to learn about historical connections between the military and space and enjoy a variety of fun and educational activities. Veteran and Military Family Appreciation Day is an all-day event, so visitors can arrive anytime during Discovery Center hours of operation.
