The European Association of Aerial Surveying Industries (EAASI) has appointed Marcos Martínez-Fernández as Secretary-General. An association of companies involved within the generation of geographic data from manned aerial platforms, EAASI has grown rapidly since its official launch last year. The appointment of Martínez-Fernández as Secretary-General represents subsequent stage within the Association’s future as he will manage both day-to-day and strategic business operations.

As mentioned in the press release, Simon Musäus, President of EAASI said that the aerial imaging market is rapidly evolving and dynamically responding to the challenges being faced by business, government and therefore the third sector as a result of the worldwide pandemic. As a comparatively new industry organization they realized that so as to really represent their members they needed to take their association management to an even higher level.

He added that they’re therefore delighted to welcome Marcos to the position of Secretary-General. An experienced business professional with many years’ experience within the field of geoinformation. Marcos will support the prevailing board whilst taking the lead in matters of strategic and operational planning, financial management and communication.

Marcos Martínez-Fernández features a proven diary of quite fourteen years of international aerial survey projects. He has managed projects in South America, India and also the Middle East, Europe, West Africa and the US. He has worked with organizations including the planet Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank as well as national governments and international agencies.

Martínez-Fernández joins EAASI from Aerodata International Surveys where he held various positions, including Head of Project Office, Chief Operations Officer (COO) and, last, Senior Advisor, during a five-year period. With an MSc in Geographical Information Management and an Executive master’s in business administration, Martínez-Fernández has also held senior positions with Vison-ME, Inypsa Group and Stereocarto.

Marcos Martínez-Fernández said that he’s delighted to be joining EAASI at such a relevant and crucial time. Earth observation and especially aerial mapping features a vital role in delivering up-to-date and accurate data and he’s excited to be championing this resource in Europe.
