Woolpert Geospatial Program Director Mike Meiser Named to MAPPS Board of Directors

The senior associate and mapping scientist is among the firm’s remote sensing and lidar experts.

PARK CITY, Utah — Woolpert Geospatial Program Director and Senior Associate Mike Meiser has been elected to serve a two-year term on the MAPPS Board of Directors. Meiser, a Certified Mapping Scientist in Lidar and a Project Management Professional, was sworn in Tuesday at the 2019 MAPPS Summer Conference in Park City, Utah.

Meiser has 15 years of experience in photogrammetry, remote sensing and the acquisition, processing and management of lidar data. In his nearly 14 years with Woolpert, Meiser and his team have yielded several hundred thousand square miles of geospatial data products and services. He has written several articles and conducted multiple presentations about lidar and geospatial topics at conferences and to audiences that have included the International Lidar Mapping Forum, the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Woolpert Senior Vice President and Director of Government Solutions Jeff Lovin said Meiser’s new position on the MAPPS board recognizes not only his outstanding body of work, but his capacity for propelling the mapping industry forward. Lovin, a former MAPPS president, added that he was very proud of Meiser for being selected to the board.

“Mike continues the tradition of Woolpert geospatial leaders serving on the MAPPS board,” Lovin said. “Former board members have included our retired CEO Rex Cowden, our Geospatial Sector Leader Joe Seppi and me.”

Meiser said he was honored to be named to the MAPPS board, and to continue his efforts to provide innovative deliverables for clients and the geospatial industry. He wants to continue elevating this technology to benefit the world at large.

“With projects like collecting lidar following the California wildfires, a process that helps develop predictive models of flood and mudflow hazards, you have a real sense of how the data is going to help people,” Meiser said. “It’s like our work on the Yukon Delta in Alaska, where we’re helping people deal with inundation problems that are wiping out entire villages. When you have a clear vision of how the information you’ve gathered is going toward the greater good of public safety, it makes the work extremely gratifying and empowering. It’s just the best.”
