Alamos Gold Wins 2019 Esri Special Achievement in GIS Award

SAN DIEGO, Esri User Conference Esri Canada congratulates Alamos Gold for receiving a 2019 Esri Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award. This winner was chosen from thousands of Esri customer organizations worldwide for their effective enterprise implementation of geographic information system (GIS) technology to deliver better services.

Alamos Gold manages mineral datasets worldwide, with advanced exploration projects in North America and Turkey. The data from that exploration was in various formats and managed in separate silos. They wanted a simple solution for a complex problem. They needed ease of access for the apps and solutions as well as accurate shareable data that also addressed the concerns from IT to not expose their internal systems.

“Alamos Gold has tailored the full capabilities of ArcGIS Online to their specific needs. They transcended various locations, time zones and languages, so that time-sensitive business information can be shared easily and quickly, which is crucial for making smart decisions,” said Alex Miller, president of Esri Canada.

Using Esri’s cloud-based mapping service, ArcGIS Online, they have developed a single and consistent data management model for data sharing, analysis and collaboration. Now, employees from field staff to senior management across the world can access all information from a centralized platform, through web maps and mobile applications, and use consistent, accurate data immediately.

“By running ArcGIS Enterprise in the back end using nightly scripts, the software cycles data between our drilling databases and ArcGIS Online where data is aggregated without losing its spatial context and converted into graphics that are easy to read. Now, geologists in the field and senior executives can easily monitor our global activity on dashboards, using any device available. Esri’s cloud tools have democratized the use of GIS in Exploration by giving quick and easy access to key users,” said Fernando Lopez, Director, Geo-information & Analytics for Alamos Gold.

Alamos Gold uses Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS, a configurable web app, to provide near real-time views of drilling operations to on-site supervisors and senior executives in their corporate office. The dynamic dashboards allow the company to monitor where their drilling rigs are and how well they are performing to ensure that projects are implemented on time and on budget.
