Denver-based space startup Atomos Nuclear and Space wins a $100,000 investment from Investor Steve Case today

Tonight, Denver-based startup Atomos Nuclear and Space won a $100,000 investment from Steve Case’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund during the evening Florida Space Coast pitch competition.   With the manufacture and operation of spacecraft that leverage nuclear power and propulsion systems, Atomos is building an in-space transportation network that will allow enterprises and explorers to expand their business in space and reach new destinations. Atomos is pioneering the commercialization of nuclear technologies for space exploration and development.

Revolution’s Rise of the Rest startup bus tour visited the Space Coast on April 30th led by Revolution chairman/CEO and AOL cofounder, Steve Case, and Hillbilly Elegy author and Revolution managing partner J.D. Vance.  During the evening pitch competition Atomos Co-founder and CEO, Vanessa Clark, pitched judges which included Steve Case, Aia Sarycheva  (Revolution) Ann Kim (Silicon Valley Bank) Tige Savage (Revolution), Phaedra Chrousos (Libra Group), Colin Greenspon (Revolution), and David Hall (Revolution).

The startups that pitched Tuesday were selected from hundreds of entries to compete in the Rise of the Rest pitch competition. Watch video highlights from the day HERE.  Below is the complete list of the companies that competed in the pitch competition:

On the tour, they were joined by hundreds of entrepreneurs, elected officials and CEOs including:  Senator Bill Nelson, Jeff DeWit (NASA) Susan Alzner (Shift7), Ann Kim (Silicon Valley Bank), Keith Nugent (Groundswell), Abram Walton (FIT), Lynda Weatherman (Space Coast EDC), Mike Binko (SCN), Kira Blackwell (NASA), and Jeff DeWit (NASA).

 

Other startup and local company stops Case and the team visited along the day included:

  • the evening fireside and pitch competition took place at Groundswell Startups.

 

Revolution’s bus tour has visited 38 cities and traveled more than 10,000 miles to witness what is happening in startup ecosystems that are frequently overlooked by Silicon Valley investors.  We have formalized our efforts with a $150M fund to back early stage companies outside of the coastal tech hubs investing in more than 115 companies across the U.S.
