USGIF Accepting Nominations for 2018 Awards Program

Herndon, Virginia —The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) is now accepting nominations for its 2018 Awards Program.

The USGIF Awards Program annually recognizes the exceptional work of the global geospatial intelligence tradecraft’s brightest minds and most innovative organizations. The program shines a spotlight on outstanding geospatial intelligence achievements in five categories: academia, community support, government, industry, and military. Nomination forms can be downloaded here and the application deadline is Jan. 12.

“The challenges and opportunities we face daily—whether they are natural disasters, intelligence and military operations, humanitarian assistance, and countless technological advances—rely heavily on the speed, accuracy, and analysis of geospatial information,” said Kevin Jackson, USGIF Awards Subcommittee Chair. “Yet, most of the world is unaware of the GEOINT Community, much less the significance of your contributions. Who do you work with, serve with, study with that deserve to be recognized by the preeminent origination supporting this community? The USGIF Awards nomination period is open… I humbly ask for your participation.”

Any individual, team, or organization engaged in GEOINT-related fields including nontraditional technologies and capabilities—whether in social media, open-source information, big data, the Internet of Things, ISR, mobile, virtual and augmented reality, and much more—is encouraged to apply.

Past winners, such as Exemplar City, winner of the 2016 Community Support Award, found the award, and the recognition it brought, to be beneficial to their organization.

“Winning was a surprise and a huge honor for both Exemplar City and the City of Huntsville,” said Greg Schumann of Exemplar City. “It’s an important stepping stone to further creative uses of public/private partnerships to solve hard geospatial problems at both the national, state, tribal, and local levels.”

The USGIF Awards Subcommittee selects recipients and the awards will be presented on stage during the general session at the GEOINT 2018 Symposium, taking place April 22-25 in Tampa, Fla.
