NGA to Join Army, Air Force, NASIC and DHS at Upcoming GEOINT & Open Source Analytics Summit

On September 19-20, senior leaders within DoD, the IC, Federal Agencies and Industry and academia will convene in Alexandria, VA, for two days of off the record briefings and informal discussions at Defense Strategies Institute’s 2nd GEOINT & Open Source Analytics Summit.  The Summit seeks to find solutions to the challenges promoted by the integration of open-source geospatial imagery with classified sources in order to provide the IC with the highest quality GEOINT data available. The dialogue will focus on this year’s theme of “Leveraging New Collection Strategies to Enhance the Nation’s GEOINT Capability.”

“We have created a summit that will bring together a variety of stakeholders in order to build out two days of dialogue and debates that tackle many of the areas involved in enhancing effective and efficient GEOINT and open source analytics  capabilities amongst the DoD and Federal communities,” stated Monica Mckenzie, Senior Partner, Defense Strategies Institute.

DSI’s upcoming summit recognizes that in a field such as intelligence, where there are multiple offices, departments and industry supporters acting in tandem, it is extremely important that all involved are working towards a cohesive and holistic approach. To this end, the summit will offer over 16 diverse senior leader speakers including:

* Dr. Anthony Vinci, Director of Plans and Programs, NGA

* Dr. Joseph Fontanella, Director, US Army Geospatial Center

* John Burkert, Director, Air Force GEOINT Office, USAF

* Patricia Guitard, Deputy CIO, Senior Technical Advisor for OSINT & Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2, US Army

* Col Sean Larkin, USAF, Commander, NASIC

* Chris Rasmussen, PM, Unclassified GEOINT Pathfinder PM & Public Open Source Software Development Lead, NGA

Topics will include:

– NGA’s efforts to utilize innovative capabilities developed and deployed by the private sector

– Leveraging open source analytics to support Multi-INT and activity based intelligence

– Current status of pilot projects and base programs designed to use publicly available information for GEOINT missions

– How an “analysis as a service” business model would support government analysts

– Technical challenges associated with real-time ingest, correlation, enrichment, security and use of open sources as either stand-alone architecture or as a fully integrated architecture

– Innovation and creativity in GEOINT for DoD

– The growing role of automation in GEOINT and open sources analysis

– How big data and deep learning solutions can lead to anticipatory intelligence

– How the commercial small satellite revolution supports the future GEOINT strategy

– Policy and security necessary to realize integrated GEOINT and open sources workflow

– Enhancing homeland security through open source intelligence collection, analysis and sharing

Thanks for your consideration and for any questions you may send my way.

DSI welcomes any questions to have posed during the forum: questions should align with the topics of the sessions.
