GI_Forum Opens Again

In a few weeks, this year’s GI_Forum will open its doors again for the 11th time.

Organizer:           University of Salzburg – Z_GIS and Austrian Academy of Sciences

Dates:                   Tuesday, July 4 – Friday, July 7, 2017*

Key-Topic:           Geospatial@online

Location               University of Salzburg, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Hellbrunner Strasse 34,

5020 Salzburg

This year’s motto ‘geospatial@online’ focuses on the universal and pervasive introduction of geospatial concepts and methods: have we completed the transition to online GI Services? Are we ready for GI Services 2.0, i.e. dynamic applications built on existing GI Services? Do we educate for these developments at school level? GI_Forum 2017 addresses such questions in the context of big data, sensors, real time data streams, geodata infrastructures and cloud computing, bearing in mind perspectives from a variety of domains.

We expect a richly diverse mix of representatives from the fields of research, development and business, who meet to discuss questions around mobility, remote sensing, risk assessment, and spatial simulation.

Keynote Speakers at the 2017 GI_Forum include:

  • Sanna Mäki, University lecturer from the University of Turku, Finland: “Geomedia in Finnish school education”
  • Ed Parsons, Geospatial Technologist at Google, United Kingdom: “Here come the machines, the potential of machine learning for the geospatial industry”
  • James Steiner, Vice President at Oracle, United States: “I know GIS … should I become a data scientist?”
