30 Years of Success Leads DAT/EM to Virtual Reality and UAS

Anchorage, Alaska, USA-  In 1987, a group of photogrammetric professionals envisioned a product that would bridge the gap between a stereoplotter and the budding world of digital mapping. The group formed the company DAT/EM® Systems International and started selling a product, DAT/EM Capture for AutoCAD, which quickly took over the market. It was adopted by photogrammetric mapping companies all over the world.

At the time, this cutting-edge technology allowed users of analogue photogrammetric stereoplotters, such as the Kern PG-2 or Wild B8S, to take precise measurements of aerial film and input the information into the new age of Computer Aided Design (CAD), specifically using the AutoCAD DWG format. From that development 30 years ago, it became possible for a company to create a detailed digital map used for a variety of purposes, from creating an accurate base map for city planning to maintaining accurate government records of property lines. DAT/EM Systems International has kept pace with the 3D stereo mapping industry and now offers a suite of photogrammetric and GIS software solutions.

As one of the original mapping compilers and then leading the company since 1995, Jeffrey Yates, DAT/EM General Manager, continues the work he and the founders started 30 years ago and has built a thriving company providing 3D stereo mapping solutions. Over the years, he has learned a lot about the industry and how to provide customers with stellar service.
“Our first thirty years, we found success by providing our clients with a state-of-the-art product and excellent customer service. In the next thirty, we plan to expand our business targeting new industries and building our portfolio to include complementary products while still offering the best customer service in the industry.”
Jeffrey Yates, DAT/EM General Manager

DAT/EM is investing in UAS and Virtual Reality software development to serve photogrammetric, engineering and GIS professionals. The DAT/EM Point Cloud VR technology will be an evolutionary alternative to the 3D screen and will change the landscape of 3D stereo software solutions. Summit UAS is an emerging product that offers tools to locate meaning in the orthophoto and point cloud created by popular UAS processing software tools.

Through exploring new technologies over the last thirty years, DAT/EM Systems International focuses on a simple mission: to elevate the understanding of our planet through the evolution of 3D stereo software.
