OGC Seeks Public Comment on Candidate GeoPackage 1.2 Standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on its candidate GeoPackage 1.2 standard.

GeoPackage is an open, standards-based, platform-independent, portable, self-describing, compact format for transferring geospatial information. It is suitable for use across many domains, from defense and intelligence to outdoor recreation.

Over the course of 2016, the GeoPackage Standards Working Group (SWG) made a number of changes to the GeoPackage Encoding Standard Version 1.1 (OGC 12-128r12). These changes have been aggregated into version 1.2 of the GeoPackage Encoding Standard (12-128r13).

GeoPackage 1.2 is a revision to version 1.1. The update has brought a number of substantive changes that in some cases do alter conformance requirements. However, all of these changes were carefully considered for impact on existing implementations, and changes that were considered to have a significant impact were rejected or recast in order to limit their impact.

For a full list of changes, read the Release Notes at: portal.opengeospatial.org/files/72233

The candidate GeoPackage 1.2 standard is available for public review and comment at portal.opengeospatial.org/files/72483. Comments are due by 6th March 2017 and should be submitted to [email protected].

About the OGC

The OGC is an international consortium of more than 525 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that “geo-enable” the Web, wireless and location based services, and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
