GSDI 15 World Conference Keynote Speakers Announced!

The Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) Association is pleased to announce that Mark Reichardt, President of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), and Barbara Ryan, Secretariat Director of the Intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO), will deliver two of the keynote addresses at the upcoming GSDI 15 World Conference (GSDI 15, http://gsdi15.org.tw/).

Each GSDI Conference brings together engaging speakers and inquisitive participants to explore the challenges and innovations related to increasing access to and use of geospatial data. The GSDI 15 Conference will showcase strategies, policies, and best-practices that are driving collaboration and interoperability with respect to data collection and acquisition, integration, discovery, visualization, and analysis. GSDI 15 is being held in Taipei, Taiwan (Republic of China) from 28 November to 2 December 2016, hosted by the Taiwan Association of Disaster Prevention Industry (TADPI), with strong support from Ministry of the Interior. The theme of the conference is “Spatial Enablement in the Smart Homeland”.

Don’t forget to submit your talks for GSDI 15! The GSDI 15 Call for Abstracts will remain open until May 1st (see http://gsdi15.org.tw/CallForPaper). GSDI will continue to add new speakers to the Conference website, but you can see details of the first confirmed speakers below.

Mark Reichardt

Mark Reichardt is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC). Mr. Reichardt has overall responsibility for Consortium operations, overseeing the development and promotion of OpenGIS® standards and working to ensure that OGC programs foster member success. He works with other standards development organizations and professional associations to establish alliance agreements to assure that OGC standards and other standards work together fluidly. Such coordination is critical, for example, to support standards that enable the full integration of geospatial information with real time sensor data and Building Information Models (BIM) used in architecture, engineering, construction and full life cycle management of buildings and other physical infrastructure. Mr. Reichardt serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association and on the BuildingSmart Alliance Board of Direction.

Barbara Ryan

GSDIBarbara Ryan is the Secretariat Director of the intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO) in Geneva, Switzerland. GEO is comprised of nearly 100 Member States, the European Commission, and 90 international scientific and technical partner organizations. Under Ryan’s leadership, millions of satellite images and other Earth observation data have been made available to the general public at no charge, allowing scientists, planners and policy makers to make better-informed decisions on problems that transcend political boundaries. Her work addresses critical issues in agriculture, biodiversity, climate change, disaster planning, energy, health and water. Since becoming Director of GEO in 2012, Ryan has worked to integrate Earth observation systems from around the world into a single, comprehensive system that uses coordinated data to understand how environmental factors impact human life. Like Ryan’s career body of work, the system helps guide decision makers toward better agricultural, energy and land-use decisions.

Registration and information

The GSDI 15 Organizing Team encourages early registration. More information about speaking at or sponsoring the conference can be found at the conference website at http://gsdi15.org.tw/.

About the GSDI Association

The GSDI Association is a global organization connecting professionals, students, companies and organizations for international cooperation and collaboration to support local, national and international Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) development. SDIs allow organizations, nations and regional governments to better address socio-economic, governance and environmental issues of pressing importance, using harmonized and interoperable location-based information. Visit the GSDI website at http://www.gsdiassociation.org/.

About the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)

The OGC® is an international consortium of more than 480 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that “geo-enable” the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC is a founding member and strong supporter of the GSDI Association. Visit the OGC website at http://www.opengeospatial.org/.

About the Intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO)

GEO is a voluntary partnership of governments and organizations that envisions “a future wherein decisions and actions for the benefit of humankind are informed by coordinated, comprehensive and sustained Earth observations and information.” GEO Member governments include 101 nations and the European Commission, and 95 Participating Organizations comprised of international bodies with a mandate in Earth observations. Together, the GEO community is creating a Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) that will link Earth observation resources world-wide across multiple Societal Benefit Areas – and make those resources available for better informed decision-making. Visit the GEO website at http://www.earthobservations.org/.
