The Local Water Corporation of the Philippines Selects SuperGIS Desktop

The leading GIS software and solution provider, Supergeo Technologies Inc., announces that the water corporation of Butuan city, southern Philippines, has selected SuperGIS Desktop Professional as the platform for displaying and editing its geospatial data.

Butuan City Water District, located in Butuan City, Mindanao, was established as a corporation owned and controlled by the local government. Since its establishment in 1974, this institution has aimed to provide and maintain the water supply system to meet the demand of the residents for safe drinking water.

For a local water supplier like Butuan City Water District, using GIS software properly can give advantages in management and maintenance of its facilities. By creating geocoded data of pipes, connections, pump stations and filtration plants, the water corporation can visualize the distribution of their water supply system with ease. Analysts can then integrate it with other geospatial data, such as population density data and land use data to discover the potential need for building new pipes or other facilities. An increasing emphasis on source –water protection, makes watershed management an important issue for water suppliers. The Spatial Analyst of SuperGIS Desktop supports related hydrology tools that enable users to calculate the flow direction, flow accumulation, flow length and the basin area, which allows users to gain an overall understanding of the watershed. With SuperGIS Desktop, a local water company can develop its future deployment efficiently, providing a safe and sustainable water supply to the community they serve.
