Updated Global Mapper LiDAR Module is now available, with major additions to the Pixels-to-Points tool

Hallowell, Maine  – The latest version of Blue Marble Geographics’ advanced point cloud processing tool, the LiDAR Module, is now available. Released in conjunction with version 21 of Global Mapper, the company’s popular GIS software, the updated LiDAR Module introduces new and improved functionality throughout the application. These improvements include numerous enhancements to the Pixels-to-Points tool for photogrammetric point cloud generation from UAV or drone images.

Now in its third year of development, Pixels-to-Points includes a new masking option, which removes uniform background colors from photos to improve photogrammetric analysis. It also introduces the ability to automatically detect images containing ground control points, a new tool to delineate the visible range of each photo to monitor overlap and coverage, and an option to create an individual orthoimage from each photo.

“This is an exciting release for the team here at Blue Marble due to the increased refinement of the Pixels to Points interface. This is a release where many individual updates, many of which were suggested by our users, total up to big steps forward in function and usability,” stated Sam Knight, Director of Product Management.

Supplementing the Module’s automatic building, tree, and powerline reclassification functionality, the version-21 LiDAR Module release includes a new function for automatically identifying and reclassifying utility poles in a point cloud layer.
