Turkey Signs Agreement to Use Space Station’s Japanese Kibo Module

On Sept. 8, 2016, Yuichi Yamaura, vice president of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and H.E. Cihan Kanlıgöz, director general of Aeronautics and Space Technologies, Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Turkey, signed a Cooperation Arrangement concerning the utilization of the International Space Station Japanese Experiment Module (Kibo).

The cooperation will offer opportunities to deploy a CubeSat from the Kibo module and conduct space experiments in an exposed environment using the Exposed Experiment Handrail Attachment Mechanism (ExHAM) onboard Kibo. Both parties will discuss further collaborative relationships in areas such as support for establishing a space agency, which the Republic of Turkey aims to, and promotion of capacity-building activities.
