Siemens to Support the Development of Mass Transit in China

This technology will ensure reliable and energy-saving metro operation and reduce the cost of maintenance. The metro trains will be built by the CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. (ZELC). The cities in the People’s Republic of China have more than 500 million inhabitants and are burdened more and more by traffic problems stemming from the sharp rise in the number of private motor vehicles. Consequently, the demand for solutions supporting the further development of urban rail transit is equally high. China is the most ambitious country in the world in terms of railway investment and plans over the next five years to expand its high-speed railway and mass transit networks from the present total of about 90,000 to 120,000 track kilometers.
