HailSens Edge, KISTERS edge computing hail sensor deploying

MQTT protocol and diagnostic heartbeat boosts emergency management and research

San Antonio, Tx, October 28, 2026 – Dedicated to optimizing clean energy generation and mitigating hail damage, KISTERS prioritized development and production of the HailSens Edge.

Powered by KIPTEC (KISTERS Intelligence Platform Technology for Embedded Connectivity) the all-in-one hail monitoring station packages advanced real-time hail measurement with data logging, edge processing, transmission, and cloud connectivity in a single device.

MQTT IoT protocol supports temporary and emergency deployments to collect field data on this particular type of severe weather to informed emergency management, forecasters and researchers.

The advantage are reliable connectivity and energy efficiency especially where information and communications infrastructure is limited. HailSens Edge performs adaptive logging and provides data store-and-forward capability in the event of connectivity outages.

Severe convective storms have potential to become hailstorms but escalation is not inevitable. When hail does not actively strike the sensor plate, heartbeat and response commands are regularly transmitted. Thus, monitoring teams can know instruments are online and ready to measure hailstones when they fall.

Manufactured in Germany, the KISTERS monitoring stations feature leading global practices in IT security since they automatically connect to the cloud – for configuration and data sharing with approved organizations.

From Texas, KISTERS sales and technical support teams work closely with utilities and independent power producers to ground-truth hail forecasts and mitigate risk of hail damage.
