GISCI Welcomes Jeremy Mennis Back as the new University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) Representative

The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is pleased to announce that Jeremy Mennis, PhD, GISP®, has been selected by UCGIS to serve on the GISCI Board of Directors.

Mennis, a professor and the department chair in the Department of Geography, Environment and Urban Studies at Temple University, brings over 25 years of experience in higher education teaching, research, and administration.  He is an internationally recognized researcher with specialization in geospatial technologies and analytics (GIS) and their application to understanding the environment, population, and health. Mennis previously served as President of the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) and as Chair of the Geographic Information Science and Systems Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG). Mennis previously served on the GISCI Board of Directors from 2010 to 2014.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve the GISP® community as Board Director for a second time,” said Mennis. “I am particularly interested in contributing to GISCI’s key role in advancing GIS professionalization by building bridges between the higher education community and the broader geospatial industry.”

Mennis’s three-year term on the Board began in June 2026,  replacing Jochen Albrecht, PhD, GISP®, who previously served as one of UCGIS’s two representatives. The GISCI Board of Directors is excited to have Jeremy on board and looks forward to working with him.
