Des Plaines, IL: The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is proud to announce the winners of the 2025 GISCI Map Contest, which concluded with record-breaking participation and inspiring creativity. With 71 submissions from across the globe—more than any previous year, the contest continues to highlight the diverse talents and innovations of the cartographic community.
“This year’s entries were nothing short of extraordinary,” said Tony Spicci, GISP CGMP, Executive Director of GISCI. “From compelling narratives to sophisticated visual designs, each map reflected the dedication, ingenuity, and technical expertise that define excellence in GIS.”
The contest featured two categories—Professional and Student—and included a wide range of topics, from public safety and environmental change to cultural heritage and scientific exploration. Submissions were judged by a panel of certified GIS professionals based on seven core criteria: accuracy, design and layout, legibility, visual appeal, communication effectiveness, geographic information use, and originality.
