GIS Certification Institute Announces First Class of GISP-E Certified Professionals

Des Plaines, IL – June 5, 2025 – The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) proudly announces the successful completion of the first class of its newly launched GISP-E (Emerging GIS Professional) certification program. This landmark achievement marks a significant step in the evolution of professional development for the next generation of geographic information systems (GIS) practitioners.

The inaugural PreGISP exam, designed to assess foundational knowledge and practical skills in the geospatial field, was administered to 45 candidates. Of those, 41 individuals successfully passed, resulting in an impressive 91% pass rate. This high level of success reflects both the preparedness of emerging GIS professionals and the rigorous standards of the GISP-E program.

The GISP-E certification serves as a key entry point for individuals beginning their journey toward the full GISP credential. It recognizes early-career professionals who demonstrate strong potential and commitment to advancing in the field of geospatial science and technology.

“We are thrilled to welcome this first group of GISP-E certified professionals,” said Tony Spicci, Executive Director, of GISCI. “Their success underscores the importance of creating pathways for aspiring GIS professionals and ensuring a high standard of excellence from the very beginning of their careers.”

The GISP-E certification is part of GISCI’s broader mission to promote professional competence, integrity, and lifelong learning within the GIS community. It provides early recognition for emerging talent while encouraging ongoing professional development toward full GISP certification.
