Leica Geosystems expands reality capture software portfolio with Scasa acquisition

The acquisition brings powerful, intuitive 3D modelling software into Leica Geosystems’ portfolio, giving customers more flexibility and choice in their reality capture workflows.

May 21, 2015 – Leica Geosystems has announced its acquisition of Scasa. Central to the acquisition is PinPoint, Scasa’s 3D desktop software that “enables rapid registration, meshing, and modelling of point clouds for users getting started with reality capture.”

Simon Mark, Vice President Strategic Innovation at Leica Geosystems, said, “With PinPoint now included in the Leica BLK360 SE Essentials solution, we are simplifying reality capture by integrating hardware and software into one package. This way, users can scan, process, and model point clouds with ease and efficiency. Additionally, PinPoint will be available to purchase as a stand-alone solution, giving users more flexibility to choose what software works best for their projects.”

According to a statement from Leica Geosystems, “PinPoint desktop software enables rapid registration, meshing, and modelling of point clouds for users getting started with reality capture.” The software can be used to create floorplans and orthoimages. Moreover, the software is compatible with numerous Leica Geosystems scanners and many popular 2D and 3D CAD and BIM applications.
